If political party have a manifesto,it should not be publish time to time as a new one. This is cheating of people. A party have clear Economic policy.

Amending the manifesto as new requirements come to light is NOT WRONG.

Great to see these young blood in Sri Lankan politics. Ranil and Sajith and their cohorts are aging and old politicians: They have a political philosophy of 1980s now, Politics has dramatically changed. Ranil and his aging MPs must have a moral duty to concede their political failure. This beautiful Island with a huge human potentiality and rich natural resources has been completely bankrupted: yet, sadly friends and families or cohort of Ranil and Sajith shamelessly claim that they have recovered this country or they claimed they saved this country from economic downfall and yet, they created this mess and now they are passing the ball. NPP is the best alternative with a clear vision and mission. Let us vote NPP to see a real change.

Guys, this great manifesto will offer you these: income tax will be 0%, consumption tax will be no more than 5%, fixed deposit rate will be 30% minimum, the wealthy will be made poor by confiscating all their property and given to the poor so that the latter does not need to work, IMF agreement will be rescinded because the NPP comrades overseas will send $500 per person per month so that we can repay all our foreign debt, no imports are necessary as all goods (and services) will be produced locally, all essential goods and services will be sold at a very nominal price (almost free of charge), the rupee will be traded at $1 = Rs 1, even with low cost of living, and unemployment will be near 0% with no structural, frictional or cyclical unemployment. Basically, Sri Lanka will be a utopia after 21 September with Classical, Keynesian, Monetarist, Neo-Classical, Supply Side Economics, Neo-Keynesian, New Classical and New Keynesian economic theories proved WRONG!

Warren Why are you trying to mislead people by posting nonsense. Have you even read the election manifesto? Either give some constructive criticism or just don't say anything.

Almost the entire manifesto is based on bogus numbers. For example, it says Sri Lankan households spend 50% of their income on health. Do you think this is true? According to a 2016 WHO report only 5.5% of Sri Lankan households spend more than 10% of their income on health. This number is around 5% from 1995.

One of the worst and it will bankrupt the country in 6 months. Those who do canvasing for NPP will likely to have leave their area within 6 months as other people may start act aggressively once the country bankrupt once again, incase if they come to power

Please Stop fear mongering, which is unacceptable in a fair society. Shows clearly that the policy booklet has not even been read by this low level comment without any basis. Shame.

Absolutely. A set of petty unrealistic promises to lure votes. If they get power and if they are hoping to fulfill these that would be the end of this country.

YOHAN, YOUR COMMENT IS UNCALLED FOR!!. WHAT THE HELL DID THIS RANIL DO TO BRING THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRINGING THE COUNTRY TO ITS KNEES THESE PAST TWO??. DID THE PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T VOTE IN GOTA/SLPP GO AFTER THOSE WHO CANVESSED AND OR VOTED FOR GOTA??. USE YOUR GOD GIVEN BRAINS, AS ANURA/NPP WILL NOT BE GONE IN 6 MTHS AND ACTS OF AGGRESSION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED BY HIS GOVT AND THE FORCES. PEOPLES POWER DROVE GOTA OUT OF POWER. PEOPLES POWER (INCLUDING THE SILENT MEMBERS WHO DID NOT GO OUT ON THE STREETS) WILL VOTE ANURA IN AND IF ANYONE TRYS TO SABOTAGE HIS GOVERNING, THEY WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.

Yes after all a dying man clings even to a straw. If you are unhappy with A B and C, does not mean unknown D is better. Instead of proper thinking of the ability to deliver, we vote for someone like they did for unknown inexperienced Gota who said he can do anything, NPP is unknown for anything they have really done or achieved, except that they have now used rhetoric to win over many. Is the risk worth it. Your vote and our future.

You are making a categorical statement and can you elloborate the basis on which you make this sweeping statement. Is it based on facts, past track records or performance or purely based on an assumption that one has to be good by default, because others more fancied have under performed? There are many colourful rosy policy documents put forward by parties before and at present since indipendence. But non has put forward, including NPP a time bound quatifiable strategic action and financial plan as to where you get the capital and revenue inflows and measures to cut government expenditure and spending to salvage the economic crisis and to move forward to stimulate the economy, which is the need of the hour. Conventional policy docs designed during elections to cleverly woo the masses, when things are normal is not what is critical at this juncture.

Document I received is a 233 page 'thesis', an academic document. Most probably NO ONE would read it within the next 26 days. Glanced through it. Couldn't find any funding sources to implement these proposals and also to repay our loans of $100 Billion. If someone can find how they intend to fund these commitments pl reply with page numbers. If not it's just a mere piece of paper. Bit like a sophisticated replay of the 'Kelaniya Nagaya'

Country with 10B dollars loan to be paid is a very very big ask for a country like us now.Yes an election manifesto is needed for any party to come to power. We by a very slight margin with this colossal impossible loan to be paid. know AKD is a new party and in experienced if coming to power with honestly love for the country. But there should definitely a priority is neededlike 1% of loan to be paid 1st year at any cost.

This is a 225 page document. Intelligent people will read and understand the document before making vituperative, unrealistic, silly, biased comments. Go to page 98 for the economic policy. Hopefully, an English version will come out soon but there is one in Tamil too. Also hopefully, RW, SJB and NR will outline their policies too for voters to compare. Sadly, during the past two years, whatever the government did was in utter secrecy, like the IMF agreements, no transparency at all, not at all democratic. By being open and honest, NPP is showcasing transparency and democracy.

Probably NPP is going to shoot them on the foot by increasing the tax free threshold Instead of starting from 50,000 as a lower bracket increasing to 200,000 is by the worst approach and will likely to bankrupt SL again Anyway JVP probably believe in Robin hood economics which is evident with taxing high income earners

@Warren - How can I not agree with your comments of the NPP party. Firstly these fellow are very good copy cats because they are quoting Dhammika Perera's saying to be a Rich country and have a Beautiful Life. Now they want to be elected to Parliament when during the Aragalaya period their focus was to destroy the Parliament. How can we trust Anura who is a Katussa changing his colours from time to time and even the educated voter, ignorant voter are caught up in his duplicity. Anyhow it is prudent not to comment on this party as the saying goes whatever you sow you will reap as happened to the 6.9mn voters in elevating Gota where the public itself told Gota go Home so the voters too will on the day of the election say"Anura do not come at All"!!!!!!
