Electricity tariffs increased in October to be totally reduced in new revision: Minister

Parliament, Feb. 21 (Daily Mirror)- The new proposal on the electricity tariff revision aims to reduce the electricity tariffs increased in October last year, which included 18 percent for the domestic category, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said today.
He told Parliament that the electricity tariffs of domestic consumers and religious places of worship were increased by 18 percent and tariffs on the industry and hotel sector were increased by 12 percent while tariffs on general purpose category including public buildings were increased by 24 percent in October last year and that this tariff increase will be totally reduced in the new tariff revision.
He said the new proposals on the electricity tariff revision will be handed over to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) tomorrow.
He said the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had earlier proposed to reduce the tariffs by 3 percent.
