Colombo, Jan. 20 (Daily Mirror)- Most countries and organisations in the world, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have begun to realise that the National People's Power (NPP) will come to power at the next election, NPP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said today.
He told a news conference that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya is perturbed over the NPP's recent meeting with the IMF representatives.
Responding to a question on the SJB's claims that the NPP has not revealed the matters discussed during the meeting with the IMF and other allegations, he said it was not a secret meeting.
"We know that it is hurtful for the SJBers when the IMF representatives visit our headquarters and hold discussions. We are not concerned about their allegations. Only the NPP has revealed its policy and stance in public. No other party has done it. The IMF has accepted that the NPP will come to power next. That is why they discussed with us. We discussed the economic situation and the impact of the tax increase on the people, during this meeting with the IMF," he said.
Silva said most countries and organisations have initiated discussions with the NPP as they have begun to realise that the NPP will come to power at the next elections.

The only policy stance the NPP has revealed to the country is making prostitution legal. I think these NPP guys are now hallucinating at the brink of an apparent defeat at a future election, presidential or parliamentary.

Also they were against the Anti Drug operation so you can expect them to legalise drug business too.

They are likely to legalise or go soft on following: 1. Prostitution 2. Daylight mugging and robberies from those who have money 3. Drug trade 4. Contract killing 5. Destruction of luxury houses or forcing those to be shared with others

A good movement to end 74 years of corrupt politics in Sri Lanka. Getting real indipenancy after the British colony. Ending the delusion created by Walau Paramparawa and getting power to the people. New hope of becoming Sri Lanka a developed country.

Just because IMF has had discussion with NPP, how can you say that they accept that you would come to power in the next election. May be they would have thought that you are a popular party now unlike earlier. But things can change drastically when the election is nearing. Too early to predict anything now.

It's almost frightening when you hear Mr. Tilvin Silva of the NPP, long before the election, rambling in his delusions of grandeur about his party's takeover of the government!!! When a politician speaks like this long before the election has taken place, he shows arrogant arrogance coupled with political stupidity!!! Even if his party is in a good position at the moment, according to "uncertain" polls, it will make politically interested voters more than thoughtful and perhaps even repulsive if a politician wants to surprise the country with such "final victory" statements! The voter alone decides an election and he certainly won't let people like this Mr. Silva take him for a fool! Nothing is certain or decided yet, his party should first present a convincing policy to overcome the catastrophic conditions in the country and a respectable presidential candidate!!! Both are missing!!! Such “guarantees of victory” mask a lack of substance!!!

I have great respect for this man (Tilvin), it will be a bitter disappointment if he goes the way of Gota. Let’s hope he adopts a more pragmatic stance before the next election. His leader is not doing the JVP/NPP any favours.

I personally wanted NPP to come to Power rather than SJB .Winning Presidential election with 50.1% is a far cry!! Telling NGO's like IMF telling is day dreaming. At an election peoples vote counts. which we have seen results in the past. People should vote on large numbers like in 1977

munas samsudeen Sunday, 21 January 2024 05:36 PM
You have misunderstood the Presidential Election Law ( Act # 15 of 1981 ). You don’t need 50% 1 valid votes to become president. If the votes are split by three strong candidates, whoever gets the highest number of votes will definitely become the present. I mean, even with 40% votes one can become the president.

My grandfather and father were great supporters of UNP, I still remember how boastful my grandfather was at times when he spoke about JRJ, he often said that we would never get a president like him, Now I realize how true he was, the blunders the JRJ made, he's the sole reason of course after Banda for this mess,,he paved the way for Rapakshes to rob the country. But my vote is for the Sahodaraya. May the God Bless Sri Lanka.

This statement itself indicates how foolish the JVP (or the NPP) people are. First, IMF will never say they will come to power. Second, IMF always meet opposition parties and any other stakeholder. I can imagine their knowledge of global affairs. A Curse in Disguise. Call them CID instead of JVP or NPP

Gordi_b Saturday, 20 January 2024 10:21 PM
AKD is the best leader SL currently has in its roster. But JVP’s past is scary; they believe in a failed economic model, and; they are in bed with militant trade and student unions. They have to distance themselves from all this if they are serious about running the country for the next 5 years.

Pantha Kumaran Saturday, 20 January 2024 11:35 PM
I must admit we do not have a political leader from UNP,SLPP or SLFP to take our country forward. Ranil is a proxy of Rajapakses. Rajapakses are the biggest criminals we have seen from 2005. Srisena or Sajith are not fit to govern us both need common sense. So why we give a chance to NPP. We have nothing to lose.

This bloke says IMF wanted to meet JVP, the previous report says NPP wanted to meet IMF. If my understanding is correct this is a total twist. JVP builds their voter base by creating hatred, exploiting the current crisis and economic hardships. Other than this and criticising others there is no authentic ideas. They keep the PhDs to shield their rude policies and wearing sheep coat to hide, mask their past actions, 1971, 1988 to 1989. Young generation has overlooked and crossed into the sweet talks of AKD.

Cannot understand why people blindly vote to political parties without requesting a formal program to develop the country with sources of funding. Since 1948 we have been doing this, trusting the leaders instead of requesting accountability, with serious repercussions. It's hightime that we STOP WORSHIPPING LEADERS and APPOINT A GOOD TRUSTWORTHY WORKER with a plan of action to develop the country.

JR J Conceited what he had. Nothing else. Claiming to be wise and he became fool From open economy to Tamil issue. He was 70 at 1977. Experience didn't helped him either. Lee quan was almost half of his age. Therefore voters be aware of candidates experience or age. Calendar age was meaningless for JRJ
