Ex-Bangladesh PM Khaleda Zia jailed for corruption case

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been sentenced to five years in jail in a corruption case by a court in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, Al Jazeera reported.

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Court-5 on Thursday sentenced the two-time former prime minister to rigorous imprisonment.

Zia, the chairperson of the country's main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), along with five others, was accused of embezzlement of funds meant for an orphanage.

Tarique Rahman, Zia's elder son who is vice president of the party, and four others have been given 10 years in the politically significant case ahead of the general elections scheduled to be held later this year.

Politicians in south east countries are under the impression that looting of public property, wearing European kits and national dress is a constitutional rights and inheritance. That is why law enforce authorities close their eyes when such crimes are committed by them. They bring to book only the members of downtrodden class on the direction of of such politicians. However Singapore is a classic example to these uneducated people. Lee qua former PM ordered one corrupt minister who took bribe to commit suicide. Accordingly he carry out his honest leader's order and committed suicide.That is the secret that Singapore is now sufficient in every aspects. Now the only alternative that we have is to legalize these corrupt practice.That is what these selfish politicians want. Please see the preamble of Switzerland constitution. Their primary objective is to look after welfare of the poorest individual of their country. How about in Sri Lanka?

When leaders of political parties or other politicians are responsible for committing and abetting for looting public funds they simply pass that responsibility to the innocent government officers or corrupt officers of the institutes. Clear example is CB bond scam.
