Ex-LTTE combatants among those seeking common Tamil presidential candidate

Colombo, June 26 (Daily Mirror) - The party formed by ex-LTTE militants is in the political amalgam that seeks to field a common Tamil presidential candidate at the upcoming elections, Daily Mirror learns.

The alliance called’ Democratic Tamil National Alliance (DTNA), is a political formation opposed to Ilankai Tamil Arachu Katchchi (ITAK).

In addition to the party of former combatants, Ealam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), Tamil Desai Party, Tamil Ealam Liberation Organization (TELO) and People’s Liberation Organization of Tamil Ealam (PLOTE) are among the other parties. The DTNA leaders had a meeting on Monday to discuss the fielding of a common candidate without supporting any main candidate from the mainstream parties.

Initially, EPRLF led by former MP Suresh Premachandran mooted the idea of a common candidate.

Tamils will never waste their vote by voting for a candidate from minority because it is 100% impossible becoming of a president from minority communities. People cant be fooled by this type of tricks for someone's political bankruptcy thirsty. this was proved during the past too.

As long as it is in a democratic way, no issues at all. The presidential election is going to be turned as a referendum on self determination to show the world what the Tamils expect, it seems. The idea backed by powerful countries in order for the aspiring southern candidates to take Tamil votes seriously and not for granted. Obviously this is causing concern in the southern political circles!

The Guyanese President Irfaan Ali, is a Muslim. Muslims form just 7.5% of the Guyanese population. Guyana's per capita income is only 42nd and Sri Lanka's is 113th in the world. So why should SL vote for someone from the minority ethnicity. If they do may be he/she might devide the country!!!!!!!

This is an ideal opportunity for the population to abolish executive presidency. Vote and make a minority as your president. The parliment will not like it and move a motion unanimously to scrap Executive Presidency. Thereafter, bringing back Executive Presidency in future will be a nearly impossible.
