FR petition against Chamara Sampath Dasanayake withdrawn



(Daily Mirror) - The principal of the Badulla Tamil Girls' Maha Vidyalaya who was allegedly compelled to kneel down and worship State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake in 2018 while he was functioning as Uva Chief Minister, yesterday withdrew her Fundamental Rights petition filed before the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court was informed that the parties had reached a settlement at the Badulla Mediation Board. 

Through this petition, the victimized Principal sought a declaration that her Fundamental Rights had been violated by then Chief Minister and provincial educational authorities.

The petitioner Bavanie Ragunath cited former Uva Province Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, Uva Provincial Secretary of the Education Ministry, Uva Provincial Director of Education, the Minister and five others as respondents.
