(Daily Mirror) - The principal of the Badulla Tamil Girls' Maha Vidyalaya who was allegedly compelled to kneel down and worship State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake in 2018 while he was functioning as Uva Chief Minister, yesterday withdrew her Fundamental Rights petition filed before the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court was informed that the parties had reached a settlement at the Badulla Mediation Board.

Through this petition, the victimized Principal sought a declaration that her Fundamental Rights had been violated by then Chief Minister and provincial educational authorities.

The petitioner Bavanie Ragunath cited former Uva Province Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, Uva Provincial Secretary of the Education Ministry, Uva Provincial Director of Education, the Minister and five others as respondents.

Nobody is today's world should have to kneel to anyone unless it is voluntary obeisance to elders or clergy,. Who is this Chamara fellow who behaves as if he was a 'vanni king'. Cant imagine how he'd behave if he was made a governor or cabinet minister.

Siva, whilst agreeing with you, must state if People know that they have been compelled to withdraw the complaint, Then they should not vote and making him PC member next year!!! I could wager they would re-elect the scoundrel and you'll be proved wrong!!!??? That's SL voters - uneducated and un-emancipated and I'll stop at that!!! This is the injustice caused in Srilankan Justice system. We Srilankans are victims of, "the cancel culture of the courts" where no one is held accountable for cases being dragged for a long periods of time, denying justice to the victims and forcing them to spend hundread of thousands of rupees in lawyers fees. We are forced to pay the lawyers for doing nothing, other than to be told the case is being postponed 3 -4 months along the line with a new date. The process reapeats with impunity. Sadly the corrupt government does not hold the justice system accountable and vice versa.

No actions from the party either - he was given the ticket to run for the parliament and the uneducated voted for him. Then most likely due to influence the legal case was withdrawn. Even it went for a legal hearing - we can not expect justice from the current politized system and he will be cleared for sure or the case will be rejected on technical grounds. Very sad situation. There must be a 'system' to get rid of these thugs. He repeated similar act against another government official this year.

Unfortunately, our country seems distinct in its tolerance for such behavior, as unscrupulous politicians resort to inhumane acts. This constitutes a criminal offense, underscoring the unsuitability of these politicians for responsible positions and highlighting their barbaric tendencies, warranting placement in prisons rather than public offices. The distressing aspect is the continued membership of this criminal within the SLPP, under the leadership of Mahinda Rajapakse. This reflects poorly on the party's leadership, and the judiciary's failure to take action compounds the shame, as the criminal remains unpunished. Go home Rajapakses, the promoters of criminal politicians.

This is a matter where settlement must be published in the public interest. I do not think they reached any settlement but Charmara would have threatened the victim to withdraw the SC application

Another example of how low this country has sunk and how rotten it has become. A Crook who has shown himself unfit to hold public office has been appointed Minister of State. Since he was unable to resolve this matter by intimidating and threatening the victim, he has now paid compensation with money he obtained through corruption. The victim should have stood his ground and not accepted the dirty money because if convicted, this scumbag would have had to resign. How can Ranil appoint such dishonorable people with no ethics as ministers?
