Good but it is still not enough. They deserve more help to ultimately make the country self sufficient.

This will not go down well with the IMF...
Bad move, obviously aiming at the general election.
Same abuse of office that RW did when he increased public sector salaries just before the presidential election.

I am not a farmer. I welcome the first good news from the AKD Government's first step in the right direction for the poorest people in Sri Lanka. God bless the honest Parliament. The sign of prosperity for Sri Lanka is here and this is first sign. God bless SRI LANKA.

Where do you suppose the funds will come from to meet the cost of this subsidy?

Great Mr president. This is in contrast to how the full suit mahindananda dealt with the farmers. He was led by a blind person though

This is a relief for the farmers , the providers of food for the nation. Farmers are doing a great service to humanity but many still regard them in low status, this should change and we should all respect the farmers and should take good care of them and rescue them from abuse by Sira's brother types, drug and alcohol dealers.

Dear President, please provide some relief for coconut farmers too. We pay Rs.12500 per 50kg bag for APM currently. Also make rhino beetle pheromone and red Weevil pheromone available for us. Also the Coconut Cultivation board takes steps to eradicate these two beetles as they cause immense damage for us. A simple island wide Pheromone campaign should reduce the menace a great deal.

This is a a good move to increase paddy production, which would lead to ban on impotation of rice, and perhaps we could export rice.

I think should formulate system proportion for they buy and pay directly to the seller during the purchase.. Giving money anyone else less impactful. Having said that government should subside more

And where is the money coming from to cover the cost of this subsidy?
From your taxes?
Or the printing machine?
Or plucked from the trees?

Utter waste of public money. Paddy cultivation should be done only in paddy fields that generate good income not on paddy fields that makes farmers depend on various free stuff from gov. Those loss making paddy fields or very low income paddy fields should be used to grow export oriented plants or make prawns or fish.

As long as the money is not printed to subsidize the fertilizers, Presidents direction is fine. Would like to know CB Governer's thoughts.

Subsidies on borrowed money an elusive welcome to international lenders. All Presidents did the same. I was awaiting a difference with a vision.
