Fire breaks out at garment factory in Rajagiriya

Colombo, November 12 (Daily Mirror)- A fire broke out at a temporary garment factory building on Meda Welikada Road in Rajagiriya.

Four fire trucks from the Kotte Fire Department were dispatched to the scene to bring the blaze under control.

Authorities are working to assess the extent of the damage caused by the fire.

Very risky area it is becoming. Few days ago it was a Garage. Shows how these premises have avoided the Safety Protocols with "Santhosams"

These could be insurance claim matters in these difficult times. If they are such matters them the maximum must be given for staging the fire for an insurance claim

I am very curious to know why the fire brigade chose to fight the fire from this angle. Where is the entrance to the factory? Was it inaccessible? Were there other fire trucks on a different road? It is also disturbing that people are standing too close to the firefighters and the truck. This is a hindrance and a safety hazard for the people and the firefighters. The area should have been zone off by the fire brigade as soon as the arrived. Definitely more scientific training is needed.

It is high time to start a government authority to control industrial safety issues such as fire safety and occupational safety matters. It should be responsible for approving safety aspects of all work places.
