Colombo, May 29 (Daily Mirror) - The National Consumer Front (NCF) reported that reduced fish harvests have led to increased prices for meat varieties, including chicken, in the local market.
Fish prices have risen because fishermen were advised by the Meteorology Department to avoid fishing due to rough seas. The sea areas around the island are expected to remain rough, and naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture out until further notice.
As a result, local meat prices have increased by Rs. 50 today. The NCF noted that the price hikes began at the farms.
Accordingly, the wholesale price of a kilo of fresh chicken at the Narahenpita Economic Centre is recorded at Rs. 1,080.
