Colombo, June 23 (Daily Mirror) - Five persons were reported dead and 13 others injured in road accidents in several places in the country during Poson day and the day after, the police media division said.
Accordingly, the Matale police say that two persons have died in a head-on collision between a bus and a three-wheeler in the Kongahamula area of Matale on the Kandy-Jaffna road.
Two women, aged 57 and 17, residents of the Wattegama Meegammana North area, have died in this accident.
Another accident occurred when a private bus driving from Dambulla towards Matale collided with a three-wheeler in front of an SLTB bus parked on the side of the road. A mother, a father and a daughter who were travelling in the three-wheeler and the driver of the three-wheeler were injured and admitted to the Matale hospital, while the driver's mother and sister succumbed to their injuries.
Meanwhile, a pedestrian died on admission to the hospital after a motorcycle collided with him on the Lihinagala-Damwelodaya road in Hambegamuwa. He was is resident of the Damwelodaya area.
In another accident reported, the driver of a tractor and 10 others were injured and one of them died when a bus collided with a tractor in the Jayabima area of the Colombo-Puttalam road, police said.
The deceased is a 58-year-old woman from the Giribawa area. The injured were admitted to the Chillaw Hospital.
Police say that one person died and another was injured after a truck crashed into a motorcycle in Parasangaswewa on the Anuradhapura-Rambewa road.
This accident occurred when the motorcycle travelling from Rambewa towards Anuradhapura collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction while taking a right turn. The pillion rider died in the accident while the rider was injured and admitted to the Rambewa Hospital. The deceased is a 57-year-old resident of Parasangaswewa.
