Former SLTB officer arrested for bribery in arranging conductor’s job

A former Sports Monitoring Officer of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption officers on charges of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 80,000. 

The arrest was following a complaint by a person in Haputale.

According to the Commission, the suspect had solicited the bribe from the complainant in exchange for securing a conductor's job at the SLTB. In December 2022, the suspect had allegedly received Rs. 50,000 as a bribe from the complainant and had promised to arrange a conductor's jobs for two of the complainant's siblings in return for an additional bribe of Rs. 150,000.

The Commission said the suspect had initially received Rs. 70,000 as part of the bribe to facilitate the conductors' jobs and was arrested in front of the Borella bus stand while accepting the remaining Rs. 80,000.

The suspect was remanded till October 17 after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
