Former STF chief Nimal Lewke joins SJB
Colombo, Feb 14 (Daily Mirror) - Former STF chief Nimal Lewke has joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), the party office said.
He obtained the party membership from leader Sajith Premadasa today.
He is the third high ranking officer involved in the defence sector to join the SJB.
The SJB leadership is seen welcoming newcomers to the fold despite some members of the party stressing the need to choose newcomers diligently.

It is not a good sign to welcome retired people to the party. Public will never like such things. We will only vote for people who can bring a big transformation. New faces are required in politics as the old gaurd are mostly indulging in corruption. The new comers must be screened of the past and there credibility. The honest seniors must not be insecure if they have clean records. This political thieves should be banished by the voters from all the parties they contest from. Despite all the skepticism towards the very frequent party changes in Sri Lankan politics, no party should close its mind to qualified, good new members who are committed to the country! Former high-ranking military officers who have largely remained politically abstinent in the past should, like other citizens, have every opportunity after their military retirement to become active in party politics in accordance with their convictions! That's why opinions that SL, as expressed in a comment, a military government is imminent, are political nonsense! Military leaders in SL affirm democracy and the primacy of politics! There is no evidence to suggest otherwise! Especially not the thought of the military taking over power!!! But SL should effectively use and utilize its potential in tackling the country's major problems!

Sarath Fonseka as a war winning commander won the hearts and gratitude of the citizens. Likewise Nimal Lueke sir, is also respected for the fearless crime and drug tackling he did. Once SF joined politics, he ended up losing the respect and love of the people and he only got some 6,000 votes at one election. Mr Leuke hope you dont allow your ego to get the better of you. Many of our soldiers and police officers lost their lives thanks to the JVP and LTTE crimes. Hope you will not be a pawn in a chess board.
