Four arrested for running brothel as massage parlour

Four women and a man were arrested yesterday on charges of running a brothel under the guise of an Ayurvedic massage parlour at Mount Lavinia, Police said.

They said the raid was conducted by a special police team after obtaining a search warrant from courts.

They said the suspects aged 31, 29, 31 and 48 were residents from Padukka, Beruwala and Narammala.

The suspects were to be produced in Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s court. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

Who should be protected these days by the outdated Victorian brothel ordinance? Women who volunteer to do this job, men who want to pay for their pleasures, adolescents who know more about sex than their parents? The fact that the services of prostitutes are used a thousand times a day shows very clearly that this ordinance is obsolete.

After about a week or so, this place will be on operation again. Police is not going to raid it again and again. What is the secret there? After about two three months again they will raid the same place. There should be some hidden secret there. Only the police and the other party may know. These raids are meaningless acts.
