Fresh agreement with India to develop Palali airport: Minister



A fresh agreement will be signed with India to develop the Palali Airport in Jaffna soon,aviation and Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told Parliament yesterday.

Minister Ranatunga said the agreement signed earlier by the previous government had faced certain issues as the the previous regime had allocated funds and undertaken certain work which were not included in the agreement.“we have had a discussion with the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka and will sign a fresh agreement with India soon,” the Minister said.

“Palali and Ratmalana will be converted into attractive airports in the country. We have had a discussion with the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka accordance with the government’s plan to introduce domestic air services,” he added.

The Minister also assured that a heath guideline will be issued to passengers who are coming to Sri Lanka though airports will be open to tourists on January 21 this year.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
