Fuel consumption during last long weekend dropped by 50%: Filling station owners

Colombo, Dec.28 (Daily Mirror) - When compared to previous years, there has been a considerable decrease in the use of fuel during the last long weekend, the All Ceylon Filling Station Owners' Association (ACFSOA) said.

ACFSOA president Shelton Fernando said the demand for fuel during the festive season has reduced to 50 percent, and therefore the filling station owners have had to face many difficulties.

Considering the current situation, the association requested the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to provide considerable concessions for consumers.

Considering the increase in fuel prices, people have limited their long-distance travels in their own vehicles. Most of them have resorted to public transport. When compared with previous fuel competitions, the majority of them use their vehicles only for their own purposes.

"Three wheels, bikes fill their tanks little by little. This is evident in filling stations in the provinces. From that point of view, the fuel sales have decreased considerably," Fernando said.
