Fuel prices slashed
Colombo, August 31 (Daily Mirror) - The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) announced that it will reduce the prices of fuel from midnight today.
Under the new pricing, Petrol Octane 92 will see a reduction of Rs. 12, bringing the price down to Rs. 332 per litre.
Meanwhile, Petrol Octane 95 will be reduced by Rs. 2, with the new price set at Rs. 377 per litre.
Auto Diesel will also see a reduction of Rs. 10, making the new price Rs. 307 per litre while Super Diesel will be reduced by Rs. 3, bringing the price to Rs. 352 per litre.
Despite these changes, the price of Kerosene will remain unchanged.

It is not slashed. But the prices have been reduced by a few rupees. When it was increased we could have said that it has been increased steeply. Get your headlines approved by an expert in English.

These aren’t Chanda Gundu but globally fuel prices have dropped due to the price of crude oil dropping. Even here in the UAE as an Oil producing country prices have dropped from AED2.90 to AED2.73 per litre.

People dont care for these minimal reductions as the policy of the government is to increase by several hundreds and reduce by few rupees. The answer will be unbearable to this government on the 21 SEP 2024.

With immediate effect the 3 wheeler fares will be increased. Also the bus fares and prices of all canteen products will be increased. Also pavement hawkers will increase prices of kola miti! Or forget- eggs , chicken and fish also will be increased

Appreciated reducing by Rs.12, 10 or Rs.2.But even after 2 weeks later essential prices of goods does not come down atleast by a very slight margin but it is increased. Why,??

This is the usual monthly repricing. Nothing to get overly excited about and has nothing to do with the upcoming election. A Rs. 2 revision cannot be called a price slash.

This is not a election gundu... Reducing the fuel by just by small amounts everyone knows that nothing significant will happen in the daily lives. Hence even the dumbest of voter will not fall for this. This is the foolishness of the campaign advisors of Mr. RW who are still stuck in 70s.

Everyone calling it Election gundu, but they have have been doing this every month depending on the data of the previous month. When something has been happening on the 1st of every month for some time, its not an election gimmick, its consistency.

What is meant when you say that prices have been slashed. Petrol, that was sold for under Rs 150/= per litre just over two years ago, is now sold for more than double that amount. Prices slashed? Far from it. It is actually a two fold increase.

I suppose some don't remember when petrol was Rs. 470 per liter. Convenient short memories if cynics! Today it is Rs. 377. Let's keep politics aside give credit where credit is due. Reminds one of the unguarded prison cell to house Sri Lankan inmates. So safe for authorities because everyone will pull the other down preventing them from scaling out!

Fuel price reduction is not due to demand and supply behaviors withinthe country, nor due to changes in world oil prices! Even the exchange rate is not in favor this time! So what is the real base for this price reduction? Seems the authorities had kept the fuel prices artificially high...! And no wonder CPC is making heafty profits putting unfair pressure on general public. Where is transparency, accountability and ethics?

Sir, have you done some research before you spoke? Here is some context on Gasoline prices. A. In Australia 1.7-1.9AUD/Ltr B. In US 3.50- $4.50Per Gallon. Do your math to do the conversations per currency rates and see if it's reasonable or not. Sri Lanka need more retail gasoline distributors so that government can just open up the market for competitive pricing rather than monthly calculations. But monthly adjustments is a great start. WTI and Brent futures have been going down,( look at the charts ) but that has a lag to reflect on the actual gasoline price since you need to buy the contracts then deliver it and then refine it to distribute to each gas station. Please please please open your eyes before you speak.
