Just what does the Environment Ministry do ? In Kandy the town stinks of uncollected garbage. The air is polluted with the smell of burning garbage and plastic. Hospital waste flows into the Mahavelli river, rubbish is dumped in the gutter and allowed to flow into the waterways, villagers’ septic tanks are opened into the creeks ( cholera), food unfit for human consumption is sold brazenly, toilets should only be used if “you” want to contract a fungal disease, and not forgetting the dust and exhaust fumes. And as aside: The charging of entrance fees to Buddhist tourists who want to worship at the Dalada Maligawa.
