Gazette issued rescinding pensions for Central Bank Governors

Colombo, October 3 (Daily Mirror)- The Central Bank has issued a Gazette Extraordinary rescinding the pension benefits of the Governors of the Central Bank with effect from September 11, 2024.

The Gazette issued by Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe said that pension payments to a person who has been appointed as the Governor shall be discontinued with effect
from 11.09.2024 and no claims for pension payments shall be entertained by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka after 11.09.2024.

That would be a silly move. If you want the best; you have to pay world parity wages. This is the primary reason for the brain drain in Sri Lanka. The best heart specialist in K....... is about to migrate overseas. Unless wages are addressed, this will be a continuing problem

All the money these government servants receive are innocent tax payers money or IMF/world bank loan.Proper investigation should be done under Ajith Nivard Cabraal time about approval of foreign currency under Anti-money laundering laws. The government should establish proper retirement scheme for general public and overseas workers rather than politicians. Learn from Malaysia how they dealt with previous regime. Every one has a car should be investigated about the sources of income.

Gazette looks confusing. Can someone explain it please especially, why a governor appointed before 1.1.2015 will receive pension after 1.1.2015. So, if a governor was appointed in 2000 and retired in 2012 has he to wait until 1.1.2015 to get the pension. It makes no sense. Please explain

I think they have EPF. So there is no need for a pension.

CB Governor's role is a govt. employment and should be entitled to a pension like any other govt. employment. Why allow pension to MP's when that is not an employment?

Nandalal should also issue a gazette rescinding the 70% salary increases given by him to CBSL staff and the perks he enjoys thanks to Cabrall elevating the Governor's position to that of a Cabinet Minister. He should also pay for the the utilities of the official bungalow!. The lowest level employee of CBSL is paid more than a Teacher, Doctor or even the President! He skilfully manipulated the system and his friendships with the Dr Harsha to get the salary hike.

The perks of the Central Bank staff are too much. Recently the fool Governor tried to get 75% pay rise., while giving long term staff much much less pay rise. Which itself was too much in terms of what pay increase public gets. The EPF and ETF growth was curtailed by Central Bank staff, but the Central Bank staff have their own special superannuation scheme, which has not limits on growth and increase like public EPF and ETF.

Oh great! We saved billions of dollars from this move. How stupid these people are? Now even well qualified experienced professional will not join as Governor since there are more attractive offers are available in the market for such professionals. It is pity to even read some so called educated people's comments.

Has the requirement for Registration for Income Tax forgotten ? Has the requirement to declare Assets by parliamentarians not required now ?
