Parliament, June 07 (Daily Mirror)- The Supreme Court observed that the Gender Equality Bill is inconsistant with the Constitution as a whole and should be enacted with a two thirds majority and through a referendum, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardhane announced today.

There must have been something very radical in this bill for the SC to say it is inconsistent. I do not think it is as simple as non discrimination. Our constitution with all its flaws is not that backward. My guess is some woke gender fluidity clauses have been forcibly inserted by RW through the US embassy's lobbying

I think that's a very fair decision. Men and women cannot force things against nature. A man and woman has been blessed with certain creations and they have to work according to their requirements. We simply cannot force men or women to do things just because it's the law.

Our legal Draftsman cannot get these Bills drafted to suit our Constitutional provisions. How many Bills were challenged in the recent past. In almost every application, our SC held that the Bill is not in conformity with the Constitution
