General Election: Voter turnout in key districts exceeds 55%



Colombo, November 14 (Daily Mirror) -  Voter turnout for the 2024 General Election is strong in many districts with more than 55 percent of people casting their votes in some areas by 2:00 p.m. today

The Nuwara Eliya district leads with a 60 percent turnout while other districts showing high turnout include Badulla at 54 percent and Anuradhapura and Gampaha both at 52 percent. 

Breakdown of turnout percentages across major districts as of 2:00 p.m.:

Colombo: 50%
Gampaha: 52
Kegalle: 50%
Kandy: 50%
Nuwara Eliya: 60%
Ratnapura: 55%
Matale: 55%
Badulla: 54%
Anuradhapura: 52%
Polonnaruwa: 51%
Trincomalee: 51%
Mullaitivu: 50%
Matara: 50%
Mannar: 55%

Meanwhile, moderate turnout was observed in areas like Batticaloa and Monaragala at 47 percent, while Kurunegala and Puttalam reported lower engagement at 38 and 41 percent respectively.
