Good to see govt. pressing ahead with my initiative: Gammanpila

Colombo, January 16 (Daily Mirror)- Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader Udaya Gammanpila who was the subject minister when Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC) and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) formed the joint venture called ‘ Trinco Petroleum Terminal Ltd ‘said he is happy to see the new government taking steps to press ahead with what was initiated at that time.

Asked for a comment on Energy Minister Kumara Jayakodi pledging to develop the Trincomalee oil tank farm through this joint venture , he said the National People’s Power (NPP) which was critical of the project at that time had now decided to move ahead .

“We are happy about it,” he said.

He said all 99 tanks had been leased out to India at that time. However, he said only 14 tanks now remain with India after the deal struck at that time.

“The CPC is supposed to develop 35 tanks. The remaining 50 tanks are to be developed jointly by the CPC and LIOC through this venture. Before I took over the ministry at that time, all the tanks remained with India,” he said.
