Gotabaya should be tried for allegations of misusing funds: SJB
Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has the right to return to the nation but he should be tried for allegations of misuse of funds as he no longer enjoys legal immunity, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) said today.
SJB CEO Ajith P. Perera told a press conference yesterday that the former President has the right to return to the nation. “Gotabaya Rajapaksa is a citizen of this country and he has the right to return to his motherland. No one can deny this right. However, he should be tried for the allegations of misuse of funds,” Mr. Perera said.
“There was a case against him for allegedly spending state funds for his parent’s monument. These cases should resume and also indictments should be filed against other charges. It is possible to make him face the trials and penalize him if is found guilty, as he does not enjoy a legal immunity as per the constitution,” he said.
Also the former MP said SJB opposes the cabinet paper which has been presented by the Prime Minister to pay compensation worth more than Rs. 100 million to high ranking state offices who complained of political victimization during the Yahapalana government.(Yohan Perera)

Ranil will not allow for the prosecution of Gota as he is dependent on his party members to remain as President. Likely scenario would be ; Americans would deliberately drag on indefinitely the Green card process leading to angry Gota to decide either to stay on in Sri Lanka , come what may, or seek protective residence in India. India is a democracy only in paper in reality it is a large over crowded and mainly a lawless country where if you have money to pay for protective gangs and corrupt policemen, you can employ hundreds of starving Indians as cooks, cleaners , and servants and live a life of no consequences.

As long as the judiciary, the police and the civil service are controlled by the pohottuwa supporters, bringing them to justice is wishful thinking. Sira should be tried for spending Rs 800 million for his retirement residence. So as your Patali. The list is endless, you too for misusing funds for electricity projects when you were a Minister .

Blaming GR single handedly for past sins is unfair and unjust. Sri Lankans' display a penchant for absolving themselves from collective responsibility at every given juncture and thrive using someone else as a scapegoat. No doubt, the plight we are facing today is a culmination of irrational form of governance and corrupt mechanisms of accountability, rampant within our society. Successive rulers from both sides of the ditch have outdone their predecessors with distinction in the corruption scales, with impunity. It's a sad indictment of affairs and reflection of our society.

Just note the way he uses the media to accuse Gothabhaya Rajapaksa for various allegations. The cases were heard and found Gothabhaya had duly paid what is due . They had found they had miscalculated regarding expenses.

It is a habit or style to link the JVP of lawlessness and destruction when one talks of the Party.This may have been the JVP of the Pre 2000 era. The present lot of the Party are an exactly different set and we could expect Clean and Honest Governance if ever they are given a chance. No evidence Gota stole anything. He's the cleanest politician you could have ever asked for. It's Basil, MR and others that need to be investigated and they are already here. Gota is paying price for 1) looking after you ungrateful lot so well during COVID that economy paid price, 2) bad, mistimed or slow decisions around IMF, people he trusted, fertilizer situation, leaving country and 3) not communicating regularly with people.

There is a charge against Sajith for misusing public funds when he was housing minister in Yahapalu government. Also there is a charge against the current, unelected fake prez being the mastermind behind robbing the central bank. Let us investigate them along with Rajapassa robberies.
