Government revenue loss due to protests will lead to salary cuts: Bandula

Colombo, July 10 (Daily Mirror) - If the government loses revenue due to protests, then the monthly salary payments will be cut automatically, announced Cabinet spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardana.

Addressing the weekly media briefing, Gunawardana stated that even if a party related to the agitating groups gains government power, it cannot govern the country for more than two weeks.

However, the Treasury has announced pension payments for today. The daily revenue collected from the Inland Revenue Department, Excise Department, Sri Lanka Customs and the Department of Motor Traffic has been allocated for the monthly salary and pension payments.

"In the past, previous governments had the ability to print money through the Central Bank to balance insufficient funds. Now, the Central Bank cannot print money, and no government can change this decision. If they do, every country will leave us," said Minister Gunawardana.
