Colombo, August 13 (Daily Mirror) - The government has decided to import 3,000 metric tons of ginger for the possibility of reducing the retail price of ginger to an affordable price for customers in the local market and facilitating the production of ginger.
Cabinet spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardana said the Cabinet approval was granted for the joint proposal presented by the Agriculture and Plantation Industry Minister and the Trade, Commerce and Food Security Minister.
Accordingly, the ginger stocks will be imported by the State Trading Corporation of Sri Lanka stage wise during the next three months based on the recommendations in the report.
