Government to remove tri-forces security of former Presidents from next week

Colombo, December 17 (Daily Mirror)- The government has decided to remove the security provided by the tri-forces to former Presidents from next week, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said today.

He told Parliament that only police security will be provided to the former
Presidents.

The Minister said Rs. 1,448 million had been spent to maintain former Presidents for the last eleven months and fifteen days and that it is a waste of public money.

He said decisions on the security of former Presidents will be taken after a review of their security every six months.

Government is stepping in the right direction to cut unnecessary spending. A good people friendly move. These are the hidden expenditures burdening the taxpayers of this country. Wheels of the government machinery has gradually started to roll. A sigh of relief! Kudos to the minister!

No doubt it's appreciated. But do it by assessing required level of security as some of guys may be targeted by hidden enemies from war era. Ensure not just remove unwanted now, also revise the constitution not re-install even in the future by any one comes to power.

How can we spend this money, when we barely can afford to live? I am paying 36% tax monthly. Is it for this? Please ask these retired politicians to stay at home and place a police guard to protect them. If they go about, it should not be the responsibility of ours to pay for. Absurd situation of making hay while the tax payers suffer.

Welcome move. Completely wipe out Security for all Presidents, if they want let them hire Private Security paying their own looted money, not a single cent should not be touched by them from our public money.

Absolutely right. Personal protection is the sole responsibility of the police. The military has no place in this area. Nor should a fixed number of police officers be specified. Depending on the activities of the person to be protected and the degree of danger, an appropriate number of specially trained police officers should be deployed.

This security issue pertaining to the former presidents is a great burden to the government Even though the former presidents should be provided with substantial security. The government has to allocate and incur large sum of money on deploying security personals for the former presidents. Therefore the minimum number of police officers can be considered. In accordance with the service requirements. The present security should be curtailed subjected to a prescribed review mechanism

Heading in the right direction. Eventually all security should be withdrawn. After retirement they should be like normal citizens of our country. Normal citizens don't get any security.

how about stopping pensions/ If you find difficulty let some one file fundament right petition saying why should these clowns get pension after 5 years while we govt employees get a paltry pension after slaving for 30 years
