Puttalam, March 23 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that a government with a simple majority is not sufficent to make the expected social change and revive the bankrupt economy, NPP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said today that the NPP hopes to form a stronger government.
Speaking at the Puttalam District Women's Convention, he said the NPP must secure strong power to do anything.
"We have already won. But, we think there is no use of forming a government with 113 seats to make the expected social change. We must have stronger power to do whatever we want. Previous governments obtained stronger power to destroy the country. But, we need to obtain stronger power to restore the bankrupt country," he said.
De Silva said they will get together and form the first People's Government in Sri Lanka with massive people's force and trust, which cannot be toppled by rivals through acts of sabotage.

They have won in social media with same people with multiple profiles are flooding comments in support of them. Their rallies are attended by same women everywhere. They may get 6% of the votes. They have no plan to revive the economy and they may destroy what is left. They are spreading hatrege between haves and have-nots so any win could result in violent attacks against the haves. As per them , the haves in the country have robbed have-nots money. They say they will catch those who robbed the country . Other than such statements there was no real solid plan presented by them. Their supporters are well against those who are actually doing some service to the country.

Past Govts. destroyed the economy by taking self decisions without consulting anyone.NPP says they have economic council to plan the economy for SL.We must handover to them five years and see how they do.

Revamp Needed Urgently Sunday, 24 March 2024 12:13 AM
So you accept the current government’s plans of paying high salaries and perks to all politicians, senior military personnel etc? There must be accountability for all corruption and murder cases which the current government is sweeping under the carpet. Just keep on applying for new loans to pay high the expenses and service old loans. And the cycle continues for your children onwards to pay with their taxes too. So need to put a stop to these morons and revamp the system.

I agree it won't be good for the economy. But you are vastly underestimating their support. They are going to win. And can't blame the people. Who else can they vote. Stopping a landslide is the best the opposition can hope for now. And I hope some new movement with non corrupt and non racist people will emerge as a real alternative. And civil society people like Harini will be a moderating influence against hardliners like old Tilvin here.

But for whom should one vote? Every vote for the UNP, SLFP, SLPP and SJB is a vote to continue the corruption and looting. The few younger, capable and qualified men who could bring about a turnaround in the country can not advance in their parties and are hindered because the crusty, aging, dementia-stricken party establishment jealously defends their seniority. The NPP is far from what I would want as a governing party. At least the NPP can't do worse than the others, it can't be worse than now.

From the English it self can understand it is a SLPP supporter, it is ok, you know what if they bring all ill gotten money from these politicians and stop the corruption, waste, their government will have enough money to run the country and develop. So even if they do nothing still the country will be in good shape. What these old politicians have is experience in lying and robbing. Otherwise the country should have developed by now. So here we have nothing to lose, as we have lost everything already.

For all those guys who think that JVP will rescue the country, I think you are just day dreaming. They were a big part of the problem. Their supporters are full of hatred towards those who are successful. Anyway , since you were stupid to vote for Gota in 2019, it is not a surprise that you will vote for these guys . Without any Covid crisis , the country will be worse off after 6 months.

@Citizen, so from English you think that I am a Rajapaksha supporter. So , it is nice to know that there is a Rajapaksha version of English and it is also nice to know that you are a English master who can spot these different versions.

Lol. Bunch of talkers nothing else. Most of the jvp politicians are not doing any business or job. So hardly any experience. Giving these guys power means corruption will be at the highest and economy will fall to a never recoverable level. Look at some of the former jvp guys. Full of corruption. One guy had a double birth and double passport too. That was power made them go crazy. Also look where is Nandana Gunathilake is. He is in unp now. These jvp guys are less mature and it will take 10 to 20 years for some jvp guys to comeout of that thing.

Lankan political system must change. For example Vietnam have One-party system but they call themselves socialist. Their system works for them, for a instance they allow private sector to Go hand in hand with government sector!! We Lankans should examine the blueprint of Vietnam success!! Vietnam have become a powerhouse in Asia with top 5 Rice Producers in the world, then in the top 5 in Apparel EXPORTS., mind you Vietnam was devastated by the 2 year War with Yankees.

Global economy isn't what it used be. After the COVID the north america And UK economy facing New challenges. It's Not Inflation but ecomist call it "GREEDFLATION" APPARENTLY for NO REASON Price of goods going up at an alarming rate. The experts say companies indulge in collision and gouging yeah, there's no proper legal framework to overcome this situation. However, the ecomist suggest to implement Price Controll like in Socialist Economy, I certainly agree with that.

The sad news is that some SLs think that these guys can fix the economy.. Ha Ha Ha...

If some good for the country is done who is going to oppose? None. But, if acts like the social media act and Prevention of terrorism act are brought, there will be opposition. So, it implies that the JVP to introduce draconian laws like in China.

I agree with Tissa. We all know that we have problems. As Devaka points out JVP exacerbated our problems with major disruptions. I am yet to hear the union leaders advising their membership to put in an honest day of work instead of strikes. Where is the accountable NPP plan for recovery? What would they do different if elected? Or, is it a new bunch of politicians waiting to fill their empty bags? Empty promises and calls to 'Trust' them which we have seen over and over for 75 years now? With JVP all what happened was we lost our sons and brothers! NPP appear to be a wolf in sheep's clothing

Tissa Fernando - you seem to be a typical Ranil Rajapaksa supporter and refuses to acknowledge that this country is in this state due to the corrupted elite including politicians, wheeler dealers, primary dealers and government officials. NPP has stated many times that they have absolutely NO issues with hard working businesses, private sector and government officials and has declared that PAYE taxes will also be reduced. Tissa Fernando - pl accept defeat/change and move on...

@ Tissa Fernando - I fully agree. These NPP people led by the JVP are masters at destroying Sri Lanka's social fabric and the economy. The majority of Sri Lankans have NOT forgotten the damage these guys did to our country in the 70s and then in the 87-89 period. Their philosophy is driven by hate, jealousy and retribution. To take away from the haves and give it to have-nots, eventually destroying both segments (for how long can you extort wealth from the haves?). The JVP does not have any policy to empower economically backward families. We must promote and support innovative and ethical entrepreneurs. Target the global market. Introduce proper taxation and labour policies to protect businesses and employees. In general, well-grounded micro and macroeconomic theory should be applied to revive the economy. Not antediluvian Marxist ideologies (thrown to the ditch by countries like China and Russia!).

This political culture must change. The change is imminent. The kind of dirty politics happening in SL totally disgusting!! Never in any part of the world. They're making mockery of democracy by having the person president whose party got only 249,435 votes out of 16.2 eligible voters. Because that president agreed to not to prosecute previous regime members for mega corruption and bankrupting the country.

Socialists/Unionists chorus will never change! Sunday, 24 March 2024 02:59 PM
Same set of people repeatedly making identical comments does not make the JVP/NPP any whiter or spotless. Look at their workers/students unions. Why should we work because this is NOT our Govt.? In case they come to power, their question will be, "Why should we work, because this is OUR Govt?" Let others work! We saw these socialist/Unionists under NM.Perera. So we know them.

Sri Lankans are always trying new faces in politics. This is what happened when they gave a landslide victory to MR just because he headed the government when the war was won, sacrificing thousands of our youth. Wrong decision of the majority put us in this plight. Had they allowed UNP to win, we would have been a well developed country by now. Ranil accepted the offer of premiership when no one else was willing and he is a loner in a Cabinet full of corrupt Pohottowa Ministers. If he attacks them for all the wrong doings, we would have fallen back to zero once again as he wouldn't have survived even a day! Coupling Ranil with MR and his cronies is wrong. People should understand that he has to be tactful and focus on economic recovery and not political vendetta at this present moment. If Ranil wins, we will soon be a Singapore and it is in the hands of our people. If JVP wins, God Help Sri Lanka!

Need an improvement to the genetic makeup Monday, 25 March 2024 01:30 AM
I agree with everything you said except the penultimate statement. Can you cut this crap off from today; like Singapore. LOL. LOL. What do you mean? Is SL ONLY just 1 level below Singapore to raise to be in par?? LOL. First at least be like Bangladesh. There are many more to overtake; Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam etc., before reaching to Singapore. I don't blame you. It's the level of general IQ in SL. Do you know that breaking something takes much less time than making it. So to rebuild what was destroyed in 75 years could require many multiples of 75, subject to having leaders with not just high IQ/Intellect but also integrity, dedication, patriotism etc. Can you name one such person in the history of SL? Will the deer ever hunt a lion? Similarly, how will the genetic makeup of a SLn change to a higher IQ/Intellect to make SL like Singapore? Do you know Lee Kuan Yee is not of SLn ancestry? In 1948 Ceylon was number 2 in Asia, curtsey of colonial powers only.

If NPP get elected the country will again become bankrupt within 6 months with no fuel, no food, no electricity and no medicines. Only thing NPP will do to economy is print Rupees. NPP have no idea how to run an economy and only fools will believe when you stop corruption you will magically get cheap fuel, food, medicine etc from foreign countries

Why bother voting? Monday, 25 March 2024 01:41 AM
I think the general population ie., not those have vested interest in a particular party, has after 75 years of experience, lost faith in UNP, SLFP, SLPP and SJB. Many are apprehensive of NPP. So over to all the geniuses who had commented before me; what should the voters do? I think they should refrain from voting. Whoever comes, nothing is going to change for a common man. So why bother voting.

Tilvin Sahodarayo, “Speaking at the Puttalam District Women's Convention, he said the NPP must secure strong power to DO ANYTHING.” What do you mean, “DO ANYTHING”?? Turn ‘man to women’ like JRJ!? You have “one hope” in HELL to be elected! Everyone Knows what happened, in 1970 (2/3rd Majority), then 1977 (4/5th Majority), thereafter 2010 (2/3rd Majority) and finally 2019/20 (2/3rd Majority)!!! Everyone knows what the outcome was? Every time, it was a disaster and 1970, NEAR STARVATION (restricted or rationed essentials) and 2020. It was worse!!?? Deprivation of essentials and STARVATION!!!??? Best Government to PERFORM, for BENEFIT of Sri Lankans, should be a Minority Government and ENSURE ‘the Protagonists’ to Negotiate with fellow equally minded Legislators to achieve, best for all SL citizens!!??
