Won not because you all are good but because there is no other option to the people. This is the known devil thing... At least now, stop robbing any further money from us and do an honest job.

Since the verdict is a damning indictment of the performance of the Govt so far, It would be prudent on the part of the leadership to seek a fresh mandate from the electorate.

still MS RW which is the present gov. received more than SLPP. I would say, govern the rest the period in good way and put all criminals and corrupted politicians in prision.

In the history of Sri Lanka a government has lost an election (so badly) in just after 3 years in power, its time for traditional UNPers to see who their real enemy is

Please get your thought process right. Governments dont resign mid term on outcome of local polls. If so why have parliamentary polls at all ? However the govt in this instance needs to introspect seriosly and review its policies

Local Government and Central Government should be in the hands of same party to develop the country - by not me but this is what UNP told tp people. Hence the best way is to dissolve the Parliament and go for fresh General Elections!!

Sri Lanka cannot progress because it's entire political class, with very scant exception is without scruple and without talent. Plunder, white vans, communalism and arrogance is all we have to look forward to.

It is clear the UNP leadership should be changed immediately before the vote base is further damaged. It should be given to a young leader to go forward. It is on the part of the UNP seniors who were inactive in keeping with thepeople's mandate in 2015

This is a local election to elect pradeshiya sabhas. Not to decide national govt. So why should they resign. Depending on their performance we will decide their fate and yours in 2020. not today

The mandate hasn't expired at all. People have chosen their representatives for the local councils and that's all. But the fact that this is a blow to the government is true it doesn't call for a shif in ruling party tho.

This man talks the government losing the mandate to govern. He is missing the basic points of democracy. The president and the prime minister got the respective mandate at the relative elections. He is either a joker or a pinhead.

Why should the government resign. After this was local government election. Certainly things will change between now and 2020. Our voters love hearing big talks. They all have short memories. We don't want the white van culture again.

We had a local government election, not a referendum, not a general election, not a presidential election. So people should not just jump into conclusion and a lot of people did not vote.
