Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka who was found not guilty by a Sydney Court on a sexual assault case in Australia, is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka today after 11 months.
Danushka Gunathilaka, 32, was accused of assaulting a Sydney woman at her home after a Tinder date in November.
Last week, Judge Sarah Huggett acquitted Gunathilaka as he sat at Sydney’s Downing Centre district court.
Gunathilaka - who has represented Sri Lanka in more than 100 matches including eight Tests - was suspended from competitive cricket following his arrest.
After he was found not guilty of the sexual assault charges in Australia, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said earlier that they will discuss lifting the temporary ban imposed on Danushka Gunathilaka.
SLC imposed the indefinite ban last year when Gunathilaka was taken into custody after an Australian woman alleged that the cricketer had sexually assaulted her.
"The ex-co will meet and take a decision this next week after which the ban could be lifted and he can return to play cricket in Sri Lanka,” an SLC official told the Daily Mirror.
