The Prime Minister Office said today the hall adjoining Temple Trees given out for MP Chatura Senaratne’s wedding was paid for by him according to standard procedure and not given free of charge, as such it was in no way a misappropriation of public funds as claimed by certain parties.
Rejecting certain media reports that the hall was given free of charge the MPs wedding, the statement said his wedding was held in a hall adjoining the Prime Minister’s official residence - -Temple Trees. “It is standard procedure for this particular hall to be given for state and other selected functions depending the requests made for this hall,” the statement said. “Accordingly, the hall was given out to the MP following his request that he was keen to have his wedding in this particular hall, considering his status as government MP and the reasons given to justify his request."
The statement also highlighted the fact that the PM’s office was not involved in decorating the hall or in any other functions connected to the wedding including the food at the wedding reception.

Whatever reasons given by the Prime Minister's Office justifying the allocation of the premises for the said wedding, it is definitely, a "STUPID" decision! The Hall may be given for State functions, at the discretion of the PM, but certainly NOT for unofficial events. The dignity of the PM's Official Residence must be maintained NOT compromised! If this becomes a precedent people will want to have weddings, anniversaries, puberty ceremonies, birthday functions etc in the Hall in their desire to adding glory to their function. On what grounds can the PM's Office refuse, except on Municipal Grounds!!

This fellow has enough wealth to conduct his wedding at any other suitable place but not at Temple Trees. Temple Trees Trees belong to people of Sri Lanka not to any politician including PM.

Bert, you got it wrong. I don't like either mara or the other party. All these fellows must be languishing in Welikada Prison. and the Prison hall is the most suitable place to accommodate Mara and other guys and guys praising the all "Desapaaluwo"of the country including similar wedding parties.

SUBSIDIZED - NO DOUBT Saturday, 01 September 2018 07:22 PM
"This fellow has enough wealth to conduct his wedding " May be - BUT why spend - if this hall costs are heavily subsidized - like the paltry sun paid by these fellows for their gourmet meals and tea parties (at our cost) in parliament. News outlets to demand the hire charges etc under the rights for information act. I be you it would be a measly sum.

Didn’t chathura in his political wedding speech say “no other hotel had space for his nakatha so PM GAVE THE HALL TO HIM. And he spent nothing! Even deco done by his business friends free.. myyyyy

Nuwan Saturday, 01 September 2018 06:50 AM
All civilised countries have laws limiting donations to the politicians one way or the other. Why? because friends who offer you the gifts are the ones who get special treatment. That is something illegal in a proper democracy. Chathura here is exposed. I think it is the duty of the media and the opposition to find out who his friends are, that public knows when they get special treatments.

Temple trees belong to every citizen of SL. Am I allowed to have my son's wedding at temple trees and how much is the charge? Please disclose the rate how much did you charge the minister?
0 91
Jaliya Saturday, 01 September 2018 10:27 AM
Disclosing the rate isn't just enough. For the interest of public we would like to also know how is the payment is made by a check or cash credit card and where the deposit was made anyone can produce a cpoy of the paid receipt to the press etc ... This info is not top secret and should be disclosed to public any failure to disclose means it was a shady deal. Was there any involvement of additional security police due to this function and who paid for that as well ?

Premawathie Sunday, 02 September 2018 01:13 PM
Actually you are. The hall has been in use for the past 2 years by the public. We had our school OGA Dinner Dance there last year as well. Feroze Kamardeen had his comedy show there (Freddy) as well. All you need to do is call them up, get the rates and book the venue. It was built at heavy expense by the Rajapaksas a few years back but as PM does not live at Temple Trees he asked that the hall be rented out for functions. FYI

Most of the people in this country are simply stupid to make these useless people famous and vest the power of PMs. Someone has to give lessons on how to choose leaders for this country, not simply looking an option from MR, RW, or JVP.

What baffles me is why the government is offering stones to opponents to pelt at them. There are many like Rosy and her luxurious life style at the ratepayers costs. Nincompoop on a launching pad wanting 650 thousand chairs to soften the bum and many more which drives people nuts when the likes of Imran Khan are pruning expenditure on politicians

Time is running out for yahapalanaya govt. They are trying to have the best of time before they are kicked out of power. Chatura isan indiciplined rascal like his parents. Ranil and SIRA ARE MORE CORRUPT than Rajapakse family. This is the most corrupt govt since we obtained independence. Throw the whole lot out at the next elections if u love srilanka. Rajapakse’s too should also be kicked out.
