Happy if President announces something good: SJB MP

Colombo, June 26 - (Daily Mirror) - We will be happy if President Ranil Wickremesinghe announces something good during his address to the nation, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ajith Mannaperuma said today.

“Good news on Sri Lanka’s debt is welcomed and we will be happy about it,” MP Mannaperuma told a briefing.

“It will be good if he says that some of the creditors have decided to write off a portion of debts as such a thing will help the nation,” he added.

“We are a lot who will not hesitate to welcome all good deeds of the government,” he also said.

Also the MP said he will not welcome the decision by the teachers and school principals to take to the streets.

“Heeding to fair demands of school principals and teachers is another matter. However one cannot endorse jeopardising the future of school children,” he said.

Only if your leader too thought of what's best for the country, and chosen to work together, we could have progressed even further over the past two years. And in return he would have been seen as a statesman and gained respect and stature. Hope there are a few more like you who love the country rather than political power.

It is not good news if he announces debt-restructuring and grace period as these decisions would only delay in debt repayment for another generation and from being a developing country to bankruptcy and to claim credit after a debt trap is not an achievement but discredit the status of the country from bankruptcy to a poor country.

If fair demands of the teachers and Principals are not met, how can they protest to a deaf and blind government without jeopardizing the children's education? Why not give a solution as to how they should protest, without giving empty talk?

Come on be realistic. No one is going to forego the loans they have given. At least president was capable enough to negotiate and ease off the debt payments. If it was a person like Sajith, he will be clueless, that's why he didn't want to accept the challenge.

Is this the way any country should go about continuously crawling and begging for haircuts restructuring and write off of debts? Ok. It has come to that now, granted. But with no visible feasible plan to address the ever rising losses in some departments, thefts and malpractices, corruption from messenger/peon to manager, commission cuts demanded by ministers and MPs. All this with the principal sources of foreign revenue being, donations (equal to handouts) by tourists, remittances from those working overseas (another donation) and garment exports. NO MANUFACTURED EXPORTS!
