Colombo, August 26 (Daily Mirror) - In the wake of controversies surrounding the recent appointment of Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara as Presidential Advisors by President Wickremesinghe, the Election Commission stated it is carefully monitoring whether the duo is abusing their privileges for election purposes.
Chairman R.M.A.L.Rathnayake told Daily Mirror that they had received multiple complaints with regard to the recent appointments made by the President.
Nevertheless, Rathnayake clarified that the President, despite being a candidate, retains the constitutional authority to make appointments.
“However, it’s a violation of the election law if the said former ministers use the privileges like vehicles to promote a candidate,” he said.
“Hence, the Commission is watching like a hawk to ensure the duo isn’t abusing their privileges for election purposes,” he added.
