Colombo, December 2 (Daily Mirror) - Referring to the recent actions of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya which has gained much publicity, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha today said both should stop grandstanding
The MP was referring to the report that said Prime Minister Amarasuriya had visited a supermarket on her own and the report that President Dissanayake had walked from the Presidential Secretariat to the Finance Ministry.
“The Prime Minister's grandstanding comes at a time when the country is hit by a serious natural disaster. She should learn to manage her time. She has so many institutions under her purview which need her attention. She should focus on these rather than putting up a show and wasting her time,” the MP said.
“We can do the shopping for you, Prime Minister,” he added in a lighter vein.
“I have the same remark on the actions of President Dissanayake. He does not have to do grandstand by walking but should manage his time even by using a helicopter,” the MP said.
Also, he said the recent flood could be an ill omen triggered by not reciting Jaya Mangala Gatha at the ceremonial opening of the tenth Parliament.
He said the Rs 1 billion which the government has allocated to provide relief to those affected by the floods is hardly sufficient. “At least Rs 20 billion is needed to provide proper relief,” he said.

Let me recall to the opposition MP how some of our leaders conducted themselves in the past.. Dudley Senanayake as PM went home at the end of the day to his home. Then for his private outings used his own car. W.Dahanayake was PM. After loosing the election in 1960 walked out of the Temple Trees with his suitcase in hand ,stopped a Galle Bus plying on Galle Road and went to his home in Galle. Finance Minister Dr N.M. Perera was seen queueing in front of the teller in the bank to draw cash for himself.

Yes after full filling the promises of AKD / NPP as detailed some of them, hereafter. What did the government do good for them other than reducing fuel with negligible amounts though promised to reduce the fuel prices after removing commissions and the diesel price to Rs. 150/= ? They promised to cancel all unsolicited contracts including Trincomalee oil tanks agreement and Adhani projects. In addition, to amend the IMF agreement and remove taxes particularly on essential items. Blast the rice mafia. All was to be done in a short time with the executive powers. But, nothing has been done and no difference to Ranil's time. The Ranil advanced repayment process which was to be started from 2028, not changed though the IMF wanted to start from 2033. As they failed, they have started to threaten the media like the Rajapaksha era. Talks only. No Action. Just compare the 100 day programme of the good governance for being aware of actions rather than talks.

If that was their life style why should they change. These mps are really worried about this because would not be able to use the government cars which does only 5 or 10 gallon per a gallon. In UK one mp used the bus and one went on the bike to the parliament. Why don't you all just sit let them carry on with their good work. Your comments make people laugh

Rs 1 billion which the government has allocated to provide relief to those affected by the floods is hardly sufficient. “At least Rs 20 billion is needed to provide proper relief,” he said. Wait for the next budget in February for disaster relief funds as the spending has to be done in stages. 1 Billion is immediate relief. Can anyone spend 20 million in two months? Opposition should be more responsible in their comments.

NPP - give time. The PM is a lady. She will like to do her own shopping, selecting her own things such as her perfumes, short eats etc. The president is seated all day meeting people and administration. Thus walking is a good exercise. The sour grapes will keep on complaining for worthless matters. It’s ingrained in Sri Lankan blood. We saw a few days ago the deep penetrated racist genes in M Wansa, Weerasekera, Gammanpilla, Dissanayake whose father burnt down Jaffna library.

It’s time to step out of the dream world and focus on what truly matters. Every citizen, including the President and Prime Minister, has the right to act in ways they believe inspire and connect with the public. When leaders are genuinely working to guide the country in the right direction, it’s better to observe and learn from their efforts rather than dismiss them as mere theatrics. Let’s use these moments to educate the next generation of politicians on the importance of meaningful actions over baseless criticism. Constructive dialogue and practical solutions should always come before unnecessary negativity.

Nalin Bandara........ for your information this is how responsible leaders of democratic countries act for your information. Cyclones, storms and floods are natural disasters and there are set rapid procedural actions that happen starting from evacuation to medical assistance to shelter. This happens even if the PM is shopping and Pres is walking to work, unlike during your time the Bombs were placed in churches and 5-star hotels killing and maiming many hundreds. All this my friend happened whilst your Pres slipped out of the country supposedly being forewarned by local and international intelligence and PM lamenting, that no one informed him........what a lame duck. Almost all MPs. State and Deputy Ministers, Ministers, Prime Ministers and Presidents in previous Governments did not waste time in walking in the Super Market or walking to an office but spent time in robbing, demanding Commissions, travelling overseas with families at the expense of public with no benefit to the people of this country. So NPP MPs, Ministers, Prime Minister and President are not used to rob the country and waste time and ruin economy. So Nalin Bandara keep your foul mouth shut and try to do something useful for the country.

The bottom line is people did not vote for you to government. I don't think they ever will. What an idiotic comment dripping with jealousy. No minister or even the president can work 24 hours a day. Just like sleeping, a certain amount of free time is part of the daily routine in which you can relax. For some, this also includes shopping in a supermarket. Even a short walk is always good for your mind and health (mens sana in corpore sano). The good and exemplary activities of the new members of government and parliament are showered with poisonous comments by the crooked members of the opposition. What is wrong in Dr Harini or the President walking to get about their matters. After all we have two feet which we must use. They both are simple and only concerned about the people of our nation. What a shame. All the mess of the past has to be cleaned by them.Instead of giving silly comments the opposition MP should support the good work of the government.

It is obvious that a paid gang is on a mission here to bombard Nalin's statement. Petty thing to do indeed.

Nalin is absolutely right. They putting a show because they can’t act on promises they have given. No relief to the people. Every minute should be spent on strategy to help the masses. To Dr Harini is an empty person with a smile. The smile is not going to bring the prices down. If you look at the qualifications they not much useful for current situation. Most people have no ability think deep enough. Country is screwed.

I have seen former Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayaka with her husband shopping at Arpico in Hyde Park. She was wearing pants. So what's wrong? Don't they have a private life?
