Harini Amarasuriya of the National People’s Power (NPP) set a new record by securing the highest preferential votes in Colombo in the 2024 General Elections, with 655,289 votes. 

She surpasses the preferential vote count of Mahinda Rajapaksa, who contested from Kurunegala in the 2019 General Elections and garnered 527,364 votes.
