Hasaranga to retire from Test cricket

All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has retired from Test cricket with the view of prolonging his international career in the shorter forms of the game, it was reported on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old represented Sri Lanka in four Test matches -- the last of that was against Bangladesh at home in 2021 -- picking up four wickets.

He is understood to have expressed this desire to step aside from Test cricket, in a letter to Sri Lanka Cricket.

He was never a test bowler as he could not bowl 6 balls at a spot consistently and over a long spell. Should and would not be missed in the longer format. Great decision for Sri Lanka cricket and for him too.

No surprise. Despite all the wide pubicity regarding his bowling on the spinning wickets in the Indian sub-continent Hasaranga's bowling is not very effective on pitches in other parts of the world like Australia, England etc. where the pitches don't turn very much.
