Health officials warn of spike in Dengue cases



Colombo, September 02 (Daily Mirror) -  In the wake of incessant rains experienced over the past few weeks, health officials have warned of a surge in Dengue cases.

Commenting on the situation, Director of the National Dengue Control Unit Dr Sudath Samaraweera said they have scaled up preventive measures in areas which have been identified as high-risk. 

“At present, there are 20 high-risk MOH areas,” he noted.

As such, he urged people to keep their surroundings clean and destroy mosquito breeding places in order to keep dengue at bay.

As of September 01, Sri Lanka has reported a total of 36,728 cases, with the highest number being from the Colombo district, which stood at 9,012.

The Western Province has recorded 15,208 cases, the highest province-wise while the month of August has also logged 3,897 Dengue cases.
