Health staff announces strike

Colombo, Jan. 10 (Daily Mirror)- All health personnel, spanning administrative officers, health management assistants, development officers, assistants and hospital health assistants, have collectively opted to embark on a strike from 6 am tomorrow (11) until 8 am the following morning.

This decision aims to express dismay over the recent remarks made by Dr. Rukshan Bellana.

In addition, the trade unions demand the Disturbance, Availability, and Transport (DAT) allowance of Rs. 35,000.

As a result, essential health services may experience disruptions during the specified timeframe.

One citizen you need to understand that increase in wages got to be fair across the board not stupidity thinking doctors are on top rung. Everyone has to make a living. It’s government stupidity increasing allowances of doctors only. Doctors think only they should live.

Now doctors are silent!! What an idiotic way of resolving problems by a shortsighted government. When there are many parties to the conflict, a government cannot meet the demands of one party. Most problems are created by the government itself.

Government and the health ministry are responsible for crisis in the health sector. Look at the mess they have created in procuring medicines. First time in history, the top officials including the Secretary to ministry are in custody due to pressure from society. Still the masterminds have not been arrested yet.

It's a well known fact that he main trade union of doctors lead by Mr. Padeniya was always supportive of Rajapakses in past. So it's not wise for other trade unions to trust them in joint protests or trade union actions until they prove that they can be trusted with actions. By the way a solution should soon be found to minimize the impact on patients.

We should respect every profession for their contribution including doctors and other health professionals. All these professionals provide a service and make a living out of it. A responsible government cannot be biased to one party only.
