Claiming that the Opposition has declined to take up the debate on the no-confidence motion (NCM) on Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella this week, President Ranil Wickremesinghe questioned as to how he can give an election when the Opposition is not ready to take up even the no-confidence motion.
He told Parliament that the government offered the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition on Minister Rambukwella this week and that they did not take it.
"You want elections. How can I give elections when you are not ready even to take a motion of no-confidence," he questioned.
The President said there is a convention that when there is a no-confidence motion, it should be disposed of immediately.
"We are ready to take up the debate soon. We are ready to have it tomorrow, the day after and on Saturday," the President said.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said the government wanted to debate it soon and finish it.
"We want a longer period of time. We want not only one day but a three-day debate. The government wants to take it soon and finish it. Please do it properly," he said.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

The government has it own cohort of SLPP? They will do whatever they want to protect Ranil and some others want to Ranil go home but Ranil can't go home as of today . He is waiting for opportunities to win election. SLPP members are in no man land . Some want to Basil and some want Ranil .. Ranil want to win the election by hook or crook

We want our older legislators to stop been jokers and comedians and show statesmanship. This includes the president, PM and the leader of the opposition. With your ripe old age, we hope you have realised that though a vast majority of our innocent rural folk are gullible to suck up to you lot, the dwindling middle class who is now gradually carrying the burden of all the sins of the past, will not be amused with theatrics, but actually disgusted. Be more sensitive when playing power politics and start been statesmen and women. Be visionaries who convert vision into actions and share the action plan. Then our support will be there for you. If not 2048 is just another number.

Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, holding an election is most important and the no confidence motion is also important as daily many SL citizens are dying daily without proper drugs as inferior drugs were brought by Health Minister on commission basis.

The repeated call for elections in the country and the motion of no confidence in the Minister of Health are two issues that are only related insofar as they combine the failure of the policy of President Wickremesinghe, who was not elected by the people! The question of the "success" of Wickremesinghe's politics is: what has it really brought to the "little man" in domestic politics, the average citizen, when he looks in his wallet, looks at the cost of living and what, when he looks at his Health and that of his family thinks !!!??? The repeated demand for free elections is more than justified because the majority of citizens reject this government, no longer believe its promises and insist on observing their democratic rights!!! She has long since seen through the President's election tactical maneuvers!!!

Both the govt. and opposition have no difference or distinction, simply majority of 225 will end up in jail. If there is any one MP who value reconciliation and accountability, must resign and insist for a general election. Grave political and religious social matters have to be solved under the directions of the judiciary.

Pinata President Ranil is once again twisting the opposition's stand. What the opposition wants is 3 days of debate, not one day, and they are not refusing as they are the ones who proposed the no-confidence motion. Even after bribery is clear in Rambukwela's case President is weak in not firing him.

Utterly nonsense and useless comment, from a president who was elected to his post. You don't have to "give" elections to anyone, and certainly you don't "give" elections to the opposition. In a democratic society elections are a constitutional right of people.

What the hell does Ranil mean by saying " how can I give Elections when you are not ready to even take the NCM " Does the Constitution give powers to Ranil to give or not give Elections ? Does he have a discretion on the issue ?

The simple fact is , nothing will ever change until there is a complete removal of about 75% of current MPs. many of whom will never allow any real investigation into corruption as they themselves are corrupt. We are simply in a waiting game. Ranil and his cronies think if they put it off long enough people just might forget what has gone on before. This of course is fantasy thinking there will be a clear out of epic proportion at the next election no matter how long it takes to arrive.

NCM will give a view to public how those 225 thinks about the present Health Ministers actions and whether they are satisfied with his actions taken to improve the health sector. As public we have seen medicine shortages in public hospitals , not attended to doctors grievances and many leaving the country and thus has created doctor shortages and irregulaties in buying medicines etc...

What a brouhaha, what a jingle bells, we pay the bill. All Tamashas the System provides. The all-powerful Executive President is the Lord of the ring. You cannot touch him nor the Laws of the Land. So is the Electoral System. Head or tail, you win the game. So, the President is there. Unless we get rid of the Presidential System, and the morbid Electoral System there is no better tomorrow for Sri Lanka. Please think! Please ponder!!
