Husband sentenced to death for murdering wife

Colombo, September 2 (Daily Mirror)- An accused who stood indicted with the murder of his wife was found guilty and sentenced to death by Uva Province High Court Judge Prasanna Alwis.
He had on June 19, 2010 assaulted to death his wife Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Chandrawathi (35) at their house in Kendegolla village.
Prosecution told court that a family dispute arising from his wife’s clandestine relations with another individual had led to the murder.
It transpired that the accused Sulaiman Dharmadasa, had assaulted the woman with a club causing serious injuries and that she had died on admission to Badulla General Hospital. JMO Dr. N.M.Ruhul Haq stated that the victim had died of internal haemorrhage.
Delivering the sentence the Judge held that the prosecution established the charges against securing a conviction.
State Counsel Haleema Faiz prosecuted.
