-"I would like voters to decide which party brings what to the table. I will work with everyone and invite all to join me if I win, as we need unity to repay loans by 2028,"
Colombo, August 8 (Daily Mirror) - President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday expressed his willingness to work with all parties if he wins the September 21 Presidential election and extended an open invitation to Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa, National People's Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the newly elected Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa to form a national government.
He made this statement to a question raised by the Daily Mirror during the official meeting held with the media institutional heads in Colombo.
"I would like voters to decide which party brings what to the table. I will work with everyone and invite all to join me if I win, as we need unity to repay loans by 2028," Wickremesinghe said.
"Before I became president, I invited Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake to join me, but they declined and may now regret it. Next time, I will bring them into the government with no objections," he added.
Wickremesinghe further said that all parties must learn to work together and follow the Westminster system.
"We all must adhere to the rules. Secondly, we need a political system that supports basic fundamentals, even if we differ on details. This is what our country lacks and what all of you desire," the President said.

Hypothetical and utopian, so this offer is pointless since you have no chance of being elected.

He is crafty, and it is a trap. He knows no one will get over 50% so he wants all SJB NPP followers to vote second preference to him to get over 50% in second round. Same as when JVP played out Chandrika and got 42 seats by contesting with SLFP. Still the manipulator.

He does not need to win the election to work with the opposition... he can start doing it today. People cannot be fooled any longer Ranil.

AKD and SJ will occupy in first 2 slots so their 2nd preference not counted. If RW come to 3rd position beating Namal then his 2nd preference will be counted for SJ and AKD.

You better continue to sit and work with the pohottuwa rogues, if that is the route you are taking. You all have a bike gang from Kalutura who are riding about with unmarked bikes in support of you...which a ordinary person cannot do.

Rule Of Law Must Be Respected and Enforced Thursday, 08 August 2024 12:03 PM
So long any of those previous politicians are with Ranil, he’ll will never go after the unresolved corruption, Easter Bombings and murder cases which needs to be resolved after this elections. No incoming government will be able to function satisfactorily if they ignore these crucial cases. Once it’s been resolved and the culprits meted out with severe punishments, only then the people will respect the government and work with it. Rule of Law MUST be Enforced and Respected at all levels.

Many will vote for you if you make one statement and one statement only, and that is that you will clean-up the legal system and without any bias support the prosecution of those who robbed the country to bankruptcy (mainly Rajapakse family and the other rotten to the bone politicians).

Who ever form the government must repay the debt. But since RANIL and other successive governments borrowed the money, they should not be part of any future government.

The one person looking to bring together all parties and work together for the betterment of the country. It is called inclusive management or perhaps inclusive government. None of the others can work as inclusive leaders given their rigid, non-inclusive, dogmatic approach, which they have amply demonstrated through one of the worst time the country faced. Their ego's, entrenched agendas and greed for power does not provide for it.

Political psychology and a way of communication in politics to win the hearts and minds of people and other party leaders ...In politics you need to have such all inclusive rapprochement please all parirss otherwise, all other counter confrontations are counter productive..I may not like Ranil but his wise approach is very good...we need inclusive politics no one should marginalised at all.

At least he said “IF” I win, he knows he is going to loose hands down and will end up in the dustbin of politics. Old as he is, don’t know when to quit gracefully, once humiliated but didn’t learn a lesson. This time he will be humiliated as a sitting President.

Why did Ranil only ask the three politicians, Sajith, Anura Kumara and Namal, to work together and not Sarath Fonseka!!!? I want to tell them!!! The three would more or less go along with his dirty, sophisticated political games, he would dominate them!!! Things are completely different with Fonseka! He knows Ranil very well and Ranil knows that Fonseka is superior to him in every respect and will never support his dirty brand of politics! Fonseka's political conception envisages the merciless fight against corruption, social injustice, tax evasion and much more!!! His politics are contrary to Ranil's politics, are in no way compatible with his! His politics will hold those who have caused the serious economic damage and who have cheated the people to account!!! Fonseka stands for new principles and radical changes in the country's politics!!! Therefore, Ranil cannot make him an offer!!!
