Colombo, August 07 (Daily Mirror) - In a discussion with heads and representatives of media institutions, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said he has no competition as his focus is on advancing the country.
“I have proved my capability twice," he emphasized.
The President made these remarks during a discussion with heads and representatives of media institutions a short while ago.
He also said, “We cannot change any of the benchmarks of the agreements made with the IMF or creditors, if we do Sri Lanka could lose the funding. Hence, all candidates must be truthful to the voters.”
Responding to a question whether if elected he will form a national government or not, the President said he would invite everyone to work with him.

RW is the only person who talks sense at this juncture. All others are trying to boast about themselves and keep uttering nonsense. We don't need a boaster as a president of this country. We want someone who can handle the current situation wisely.

What were you doing all the previous years? You were in power in many times. You neglected Agriculture, did away with krushikarma viyapthi sevaka etc. Your principle was to import which you said was cheaper than growing here. Now you want power to undo your own damage. This must be basis tactics or politicians. Bring the country down, make people poor and then come to elections promising the moon and the sun. OK, if you have brought the economy to some stable position, let others younger carry on. You are not the only one who can carry on. You cannot run the entire relay race, as leadership is a like a relay race. You have done your good or bad, now please retire gracefully.

Be advised nothing is carved in stone. You have no right to say that what you and this deceitful government has done is the only way out. There has to escape clauses in any agreement. Can be done by a small penalty. Further you are not God's gift to mankind as the savoir of Lanka. Fresh thinking is necessary to move forward. Do not try to brainwash people as they have already made up their mind. Go back to history it will tell y how successful you were in the past with elections.

Ranil may be correct, the intelligent and educated in Colombo would vote for him, but the rural folks feel cost of living unbearable, they could see pre Rajapaksa era a blessing; hence Ranil's dream world is illusive.

Ranil and the UNP managed to get only 239,000 votes from the entire country during the last general election. This time with some SLPP members the maximum he will get is 1.2 million votes, in the presidential election. So, he will be lucky if he hits the 4th place in the race. Ranil since you are taken as a bite, why won't you give up.

Once again, it is not true when Ranil says that he has no (!) competition!!! All well-known presidential candidates want the country to develop further while complying with the known financing conditions!!! The only difference is that there is at least one (!) candidate, Sarath Fonseka, who will also remove the disastrous internal conditions and obstacles that are blocking the country's development, such as corruption, the illegal enrichment of specific politicians, social and ethnic injustices, etc.!!! Ranil has done the exact opposite, he has protected the perpetrators and robber barons of all these atrocities and has done nothing against them!!! The only hope is that the majority of voters will not be deceived by him and other political "charlatans"!!!

Of course, you have proved your capability twice. The first was almost as soon as you assumed power, you heinously cancelled the local government elections that had been called. The second was in brutally repressing the democratic rights of the people by the heinous use of military force and generous use of water cannon and tear gas. In both instances, you lived up to the reputation in describing yourself as a Hitler. So when you face the forthcoming elections, you will have no competition at all. There is absolutely no need to talk about it.

NO COMPETITION!!! SAY THAT AGAIN, YOUR COMPETITION IS WITH THE MAJORITY OF VOTERS WHO WITH PEOPLES POWER WILL WIPE YOU OUT OF POLITICS. THOUGHT YOUR CAPABILITIES WERE FOR THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE, UNFORTUNATELY YOU ARE TAKING THE COUNTRY ALONG FOR YOUR OWN SEEKING AND LEAVING THE MAJORITY OF SUFFERING POOR AND LESS FORTUNATE BEHIND (TIME TO STEW IN THIS THOUGHT). YOUR ONE MISSION IS TO GET THE STATUS OF HAVING BEEN THE PEOPLES PRESIDENT, SORRY TO SAY THAT IS "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE".

Yes Ranil is correct. He has no competition in the following: 1. Adding all the crooks into his group 2. Mega white collar robberies - Central Bank and Visa processing 3. Approving number of bills to be presented to the Parliament which violated the constitution and Human Rights 4. Not conducting elections on due dates 5. Entering parliament through the back door when people have rejected him and his party without giving a single seat in an election. Yes there is no competition to Ranill on these points.

When the wild old fox met the media and asked about 'drive' somehow he got the word salad enticing. The cunning fox wants people to reject Pohottu thieves, (jumped and started supporting him) at the general election. Why this enlightened politics nominate them but this is not a thing as he is going to end up without any medal for sure.
