Colombo, November 03 (Daily Mirror)- Former Presidents used to enjoy unlimited perks and privileges where they used to get organic vegetables that were grown in Nuwara Eliya every week for their consumption, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake revealed today.
Speaking at an election rally in Nuwara Eliya, the President said he instructed the officials at the Presidential Secretariat to use the vegetables received from Nuwara Eliya to prepare food for security officials.
"I learnt that organic vegetables had been grown in the land belonging to the President's House in Nuwara Eliya for the consumption of the President. I noticed that two bags of vegetables weighing 60 Kgs were received by the Presidential Secretariat from Nuwara Eliya every Friday. Then, I got to know that the organic vegetables were sent from Nuwara Eliya every week. I asked them to use those vegetables for the food prepared for security officials," he said.
The President said those leaders did not eat even vegetables grown for the common man adding that they even expect such perks and privileges even after losing the elections.

A very good move. These are plus points and you will get two third majority in the General Election. Wish you all the best from the bottom of our ( your people) HEARTs.

While the public were eating vegetables often sprayed with insecticides and fungicides for which they have to pay money to buy, these former presidents have been having organic vegetables all the time and and at no cost to them. We wish NPP all the best and two thirds majority in this Parliamentary Elections on 14 November 2024,

He is not! He is explaining to the people the hidden life style of these thuggish past Presidents and their excesses. People should be told about the double lives that our past leaders lived. They also manipulated the law, the officials, and the justice system, so that they could conduct themselves above the law. Have you not seen Batalanda Ranil threatening and intimidating post office officials once in public at a time when he was off guard, trying to show that he was the boss. He was clearly angry, and he called Shani Abeysekara "donkey" when the officer rejected Ranil's request to manipulate procedures to clear his minister (Sujeewa Senasinghe) accepting a one-million bribe from Mahendran's son-in-law Aloysius, which was part of the money stolen from Central Bank. AKD, you tell the truth, and show who the rogues are.

Exactly. What does this has to do with anything unless he wants to score some points. We all like to consume organic organic foods for health issues regardless who you are. It's a preference of lifestyle. If someone wants to eat garbage that is his or her preference.

Maxwell Monday, 04 November 2024 04:01 AM
Preferring not to eat exclusively grown vegetables at a cost borne by the people by himself while the common people only get what is available in the market is termed an `inferiority complex`? So, the callous, insensitive behavior of past Presidents like RW, MR, GR, Sirisena, CBK etc. were all superior to you and better accepted? As long as even a grain of such self inferiority acceptance is inherent in any of us this society will never progress beyond subjugation.

That is how those suffering from a superiority complex see things. Thankfully that elitist camp will have no choice except drop their ego and accept reality the way it is.

Aney, Mr. President, can you please take a broader view of the economy and do things to bring economic prosperity rather than focus on "nano" matters? You reduce the fuel price of Octane 95 but not Octane 92 of the common man. Whether you consume organic vegetables or not is no concern for us. Please understand, you are the president of Sri Lanka, and not a MP in the opposition organising strikes and protest campaigns.

Another irrelevant distorted story by AKD. If Presidential house in N Eliya has a organic vegetable patch which has produce isn't it a good thing? What do they want to do with the veggies? Don't grow or throw them away? These are all gimmicks to distract the gullible SL voters who have forgotten all what was promised before he became president

These EXes were the rulers of a certain class; they were not the leaders of the entire country. The special treatments, perks, and privileges they asked for indicate that they acted that way too. They may have felt an inflated sense of self-importance and wanted to pretend to be a special breed.

No point in entertaining people on stage! People will start asking for food once the laughter ends! Your 60kg of veggies are like stopping backup vehicles, gives no value towards forward progression. No no vehicles for ministers, what difference has it done? Now no petroleum minister (taking 150/- per liter) , has it reduced fuel?

This practice was in place from JR’s time, as I can remember. Every week the vegetables were sent by train from N’Eliya. The Prabhu ones. Presidents also spent their holidays during the April season in the Salubrious President’s house in N’Eliya with their extended families. Wonder what AKD would do? Interesting times indeed!!!

Don’t you people understand the reason they eat organic vegetable, bcoz the veritable grown for common people are highly produced with chemicals , so they are scared to eat them, they should be the example to the common people. But they serve garbage to common people while they eat healthy food. Common people suffering from all the diseases and they and their family wants to live a healthy life. Same like they don’t want to use the common man medicine while importing high quality medicine for them and travel to singapore for high quality treatment. If they don’t face the common people suffering, how they will improve the life of ours.

Give the guy a break, he’s just started. Why are Sri Lankans such narrow minded folk or are all the trolls here from the “opposition”? If you can’t get the small things right, then you can’t do the big things right. What he is highlighting is the two class system, if the leaders can’t eat what the average person eats, then they cannot lead “the people” If you lose the common touch, you cannot lead for the people but for your self and your cronies as has largely happened since independence.

This sanctimonious revelations and witch hunt is counter productive and utterly useless. He needs to stay on track in order to deliver his election promises in a timely manner.

Remember there is NO parliament yet to bring any new laws. Why are you not aware of this? The problem with some citizens is that they expect miracles in one month. It is important for citizens know how RW without a mandate and comprehensively rejected by people 17 times lived a luxury life hidden to the public who paid for this.
