Newly sworn-in MP Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana today said he will remain in opposition but scoffed reports that he is to support Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
“There were reports that I have met the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. It was true that I met him as the Leader of Opposition at his office. I met him at the opposition leader’s office and not in SJB office,” Mr. Moulana told journalists in Parliament.
“I will not cross over to the government unilaterally but would only do so if my party the SLMC comes up with such a decision,” he added.
“I will be at my electorate to see to the needs of the voters unlike my predecessor Nazir Ahamed who never visited his voters,” he also said.
Mr. Moulana recalled that he was at the forefront against what he called ‘forceful burial' of Muslims who died of COVID 19 during the pandemic period. “Muslims were unnecessarily subjected to forceful burials during the pandemic,” he said. (Yohan Perera)
