IGP to look into traffic police video recording traffic offences

Steps will be taken to resolve the various concerns regarding traffic offences being video recorded by the traffic police and then being released to the media, Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne informed a Parliament Committee.

The IGP informed this to the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Public Security when the matter was raised in the committee recently.

The Committee raised concerns regarding the ethicality of traffic police video recording offences and then releasing them to the media.

The Committee was of the view that the police must respect the privacy of any offender.

The senior police officers who were present stated that a mechanism is already in place to reward and recognise police officers conducting drug raids.

Senior police officers said that unlike before when the police received information regarding the possession of drugs, the person in possession is charged for illegal possession and presented before court, the police now conduct two separate inquiries for illegal possession as well as money laundering.(Ajith Siriwardana)

It is in practice in develop countries recording of traffic offences and later being produce as evidence in legal proceedings. But i am concern of privacy policies if an offence is minor.

These offences RISKS THE LIFE OF PEOPLE ON THE ROAD. Therefore, it would be best if people know about these incidents. So that people can be careful of themselves.

Well bottom line is there is no law order. Everyone does whatever they want starting from the top to bottom. They also do not care about others. As long as the so called elite does not follow the rules, nothing will happen. Mark my work, we will talk about the same subject even after 50 years. That is is sad reality.

All this drama by the Officers of the Traffic Police is to get recognition of doing a wonderful and honest job. Why haven't they videoed the drivers who are to be booked on a ticket exchanging some "Santhosam" What about the Traffic Officers hiding behind Trees who pounce on motor traffic offenders. (Only happening in Sri Lanka)
