IMF has no objection to public sector salary increment: Deputy Minister

Claiming that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has not made any objections to the proposed public sector salary increment, Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe said today the government will go ahead with the proposal and provide a significant salary increment in the upcoming budget.

The Deputy Minister told Parliament that a significant salary increment will be provided to the public sector employees in line with the cost of living.

While responding to a question by MP Ravi Karunanayake, he said the government is not ready to accept the Rs. 25,000 increment proposed by the Ranil Wickremesinghe government as it was done targeting the Presidential election.

of course not as long as Sri Lanka sticks to the agreement made on debt repayment. So before we shower a largely inefficient and bloated public sector, there should be stringent plans to streamline and divest resource out and make the private sector more prominent. Government departments should be given the responsibility come up with plans to cut down their budget year one year, while increasing the quality of the public services. However, the early indications that the government intents to go the other way.

Your proposal is good but will never happen. Living in srilanka and dealing with the public sector, they are lazy, incompetent and work least as possible and try to maximize their income. It's petty that this cannot be addressed by any government but keeping on increasing their salaries.
