The reason is our people are lazy and wants everything cheap.
The younger generation don't want to work in cultivating and get their hands dirty. That is why we have a crisis in plantation sector for labor.

This isn't going to help the poor man unless a very strict price control mechanism is put in place.

It should be increased during the local harvesting season and decreased when we do not have enough harvest to fulfil the local requirements. In addition, the government should investigate how to cultivate much-needed products here in Sri Lanka. We have to admit that it won't be easy to do everything in Sri Lanka, as this is a small country with a huge population. Therefore, we need to find the right balance in each and every area—not like some people who tell us we can do everything here.

Your formula for increase and decrease of seasonal prices is correct ,but we should start cultivating more and when there is more, the imports will start to decrease. My argument is it is the poor man who will be burdened with the price increase.

Taxing imports is one thing, but having an affordable price for local products is another. The big question is whether the local consumers will get a lower price. In SL, strange thing is neither the farmer nor the consumer benefit from these things.

I hope this government don't go in to price controlling. Let the free market decide the price. Intervene only if there is a monopoly.

Please help local farmers...Our potatoes and onions are much better than imported stuff.

Helping local farmers cannot be at the poor mans cost. Let the consumers decide whether they want better ones or cheap ones. The locally produced agro products are absolutely over priced. you figure out what and why.

And so it begins... Sunday, 06 October 2024 06:23 PM
Import while you establish and increase the locally grown harvest which will take some months. Increasing the taxes now will be a blow to the consumer just before the Christmas and New Year season as these increases will be tagged to the price of goods the customer is forced to pay.

Let the market decide the prices; not the government.
