Importers say vehicle prices will go up

Prices of vehicles would be increased by at least Rs. 250,000 as an impact of the depreciation of Sri Lankan rupee against the US Dollar, the Vehicle Importers Association Lanka (VIAL) President Indika Sampath Merenchige said.

The value of Sri Lankan rupee dropped to a new record low of 170 against the US Dollar yesterday.

According to the the foreign exchange rates issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the selling price of US dollar was Rs.170.65 while the buying price was shown as Rs. 166.78.

Good that the vehicle prices go up, but only until the infrastructural development of the road network is completely taken place.

If we have a decent public transport network like in Singapore, we wont need cars. We are taxed like in Singapore, with facilities just a bit higher than that of Somalia.

Vehicles are already in Sri Lanka before depreciation, Why you want to increase prices ? If you receive new stock, then it is understood the prices will go up.

For these prices cars should come with at least a bathroom and a kitchen. Combine that with the rush hour traffic you have a facility that you can call home ..... pull your moving condo up to the side of the road and you're at home !!
