Colombo, Jan. 16 (Daily Mirror) - FIFA is planning to conduct the inaugural FIFA ‘World Series,’ a four-nation football tournament from March 18 to 26 in Colombo.

This was agreed in principle by the FIFA President with the Football Sri Lanka (FSL) delegation headed by President Umar Jaswar, Vice-Presidents Ranjith Rodrigo and Dr. Manil Fernando on the sideline of the recent AFC Asian Cup opening ceremony in Doha, Qatar.

FIFA will provide the most needed boost to football in Sri Lanka after the FSL delegation explained the way forward for SLF, President FSL Umar Jaswar told the Daily Mirror.

The FIFA World Series will provide an opportunity for all countries to improve and advance into the second stage of the FIFA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.

Sri Lanka will be joined by another Asian country along with another nation from Oceania and one country from the African region for this tournament.

FSL and FIFA will jointly make an official announcement on this tournament in the coming days, FSL President Jaswar revealed.
