Indian businessman arrested at BIA with Rs. 30M in gold



A 29-year-old Indian national was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials at the Katunayake Airport while attempting to smuggle gold biscuits worth approximately Rs. 30 million.

The man, who had arrived from Chennai as a business passenger, was detained at the departure terminal on his way to board a flight to Bangalore.

Upon searching him, CID officers found nine gold biscuits weighing 1.158 kgs and three additional gold pieces concealed in a small bag inside his trouser pocket.
