Insurance scheme for schools’ rugby

(Daily Mirror) - For the first time in history, a special insurance scheme will be introduced to Sri Lanka’s schoolboy rugby players following an initiative from the Minister of Sports, Harin Fernando. 

The special insurance scheme will be introduced to under-16 and under-19 rugby players, Sports Ministry sources revealed today.

The Sports Ministry was able to provide this special insurance scheme for the schoolboy rugby players following an agreement with the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation. 

The official ceremony for the special insurance scheme took place between the Sports Minister and Director General (DG) Sports of the Sports Development Department, Professor Shemal Fernando, at the Havelock Sports Club premises.

Meanwhile, LKR 5 million was presented to the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Association at the occasion with the aim of improving the standards of referees in the country. 

In addition, the Henry Pedris Stadium was officially handed over to Isipathana College at this occasion, while H.I.C. de Zoysa of St. Joseph’s College, who was injured during last season, was presented with LKR 1 million.
