Inter School Rugby: S. Thomas’ beat Wesley, Dharmaraja stun Trinity College, St. Peter's eke out win over Royal



S. Thomas’ College held off a last-minute charge from Wesley College to get their hands on the Oliver Goonethilake Shield and open their Dialog Inter School Rugby League campaign with a 19-13 win, while Dharmaraja College stunned Trinity College and St. Peter’s pulled off an invaluable win over Royal College.

Dharmaraja College meanwhile, scored a last minute try to record their first ever win over Trinity College, at Bogambara, by 17 points to 15. 

Dharmaraja jumped to a 10-00 lead at half-time with a converted try and a penalty but Trinity fought back to take a 15-10 lead into the final stages of the match. 

A late converted try from Dharmaraja scored by Ishara Wijewardana and converted by Luchitha Wijayarathna, however, ensured that the Rajans would leave the Bogambara Stadium with the historic victory. 

Sachindu Weerasekera scored a brace and Abidh Jameel added a third try for the Trinitians, none of which were converted. 

At Bambalapitiya, St. Peter's College conceded their half-time lead only to comeback and record a crucial 11-05 win over Royal College.

Royal scored an unconverted try to go up 5-3 in the second half, before St. Peter's responded with a penalty that put them ahead.
